Working For The Neighborhood.

The Short North Civic Association(formerly Victorian Village Society) is a non-profit civic association focused on building a strong community through representation, education, advocacy and sponsorship of events and projects for the neighborhoods of the Short North area. We welcome all of those who reside in the neighborhood, including homeowners and renters alike, as well as business owners and their employees, to become a member.

General Meetings:
Third Thursday each month
Goodale Park Caretaker's Residence
7 pm to 8:30 pm

The purpose of the society is to:
  • Promote the spirit of neighborliness among residents, businesses and organizations in the neighborhood
  • Promote restoration, preservation and maintenance of the historic district
  • Represent the neighborhoods of the Short North before governmental bodies on issues affecting the neighborhood and the Near Northside Historic District
  • Encourage the development of new businesses in the area
  • Strengthen the general welfare and unity among those living in the neighborhood
Some of our major initiatives include:
  • The Annual Home & Garden Tour each September
  • The Vibe, the monthly newsletter for the Neighborhoods of the Short North
  • On-going guidance of The Overall Traffic Management Plan, a cooperative agreement between the city of Columbus and the historic neighborhoods of the Short North to improve the impact of automobile, truck and bus traffic through the historic district
  • Funding for the build-out of 10 new traffic islands on Neil Avenue
  • Gateway signage to clearly identify the individual neighborhoods that comprise the Short North at all points of entry with visible, historically appropriate markers
Some of the projects we completed and/or funded:
  • Annual grant to Hubbard Elementary school
  • Sponsor of Goodale Park Music series
  • Contribute to Friends of Goodale Park for park projects
  • New signage for Goodale Park
  • Matching grants for other neighborhood groups
  • Provide funding for plantings in planters on Neil Avenue
  • Provide security and restrooms for Goodale Park for Red, White, and Boom
  • Renovation and improvements to the Goodale Park Caretaker's residence
  • Neil Avenue traffic island improvements
  • Provide water to Neil Avenue islands
  • Maintain light poles in Neil Avenue traffic islands
  • Banners for Neil Avenue light poles
  • Install recycling bins in various locations throughout the Short North
  • Bike racks for Goodale Park in conjunction with SNNF and Comfest

As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily on volunteers to make things happen for the neighborhood. In addition to the more than 200 volunteers needed each September for the Home & Garden Tour, we need those with diverse talents to contribute to the operation and growth of the organization. Please consider joining and volunteering for the Association!
